1. Short Hand = Hour Hand
Points directly to an hour number, or between two numbers. Always read the number it just passed.
2. Long Hand = Minute Hand
Reaches toward the outer edge. Every big number equals 5 minutes! Count by 5s around the circle.

The "Hour Hand Trap"
Most Common Mistake

The Trap: Saying "2:50"
Because the short hand is pointing right at the 2, many people think it is 2:50. That is incorrect!
The Truth: It is 1:50!
The hour hand slowly creeps toward the 2 as minutes pass. It will not reach 2 o'clock until the long hand hits the 12!
The Golden Rule: If the minute hand has passed the 6, always choose the smaller hour number!
