Understanding Our Agreement
Part 1 of 6
What is an Essential Agreement?
It is not a long list of rules. It is a shared promise we all make to protect our space.
Keeps Us Safe
Everyone feels physically, emotionally, and socially secure.
Supports Learning
Gives each student the calm environment they need to think.
Allows Resets
Mistakes happen. We use tools to reset and try again.
💡 We built these together so everyone gets what they need to succeed!
1
Agreement Number One
Respect & Communication
I Can Statement
"I can use kind words and respect personal space."
What It Looks & Sounds Like
- ✓ Keeping hands and belongings to yourself.
- ✓ Saying: "Excuse me," "Thank you," or "Good job."
- ✓ Listening when someone else is sharing ideas.
What We Avoid (Not This)
- ✗ Teasing, name-calling, or mocking accents/mistakes.
- ✗ Touching others' desks, backpacks, or bodies.
- ✗ Interrupting or talking over the speaker.
💬 If someone enters your bubble: Say calmly: "I need some space right now, please."

Agreement Number Two
Self-Regulation & Support
I Can Statement
"I can ask for help or take a calm break when I need one."
1. Silent Signal
Flash your Break Card or use your desk helper signal without disrupting others.
🖐️ No words needed!
2. Reset Corner
Use the Calm Zone for 3-5 minutes with a sensory tool or timer to reset.
⏳ Timer runs & return
3. Quick Script
Tell a teacher: "I am feeling overwhelmed. Can I have 3 minutes?"
🗣️ Asking is a strength!
✅ Taking a break is NOT a punishment. It is how we stay in control and ready to learn.
3
Agreement Number Three
Materials & Environment
I Can Statement
"I can treat our classroom supplies and sensory tools with care."
Fidgets & Tech Tools
- ✔ Fidgets are tools, not toys: Keep them silent and in your hands.
- ✔ Headphones & Chromebooks: Put back on chargers when done.
Shared Class Space
- ✔ Clean-Up Routine: Return pencils and books to their labeled bins.
- ✔ Floor Clear: Keep backpacks under your desk so aisles stay safe.
❓ Quick Question: If a tool breaks accidentally, what do you do? Tell the teacher calmly!
4
Agreement Number Four
Emotional Regulation
I Can Statement
"I can pause and reset when I feel frustrated or overwhelmed."
1
NOTICE
Notice your body: tight fists, racing heart, or feeling stuck.
2
BREATHE
Take 3 deep box breaths or trace 5 fingers slowly.
3
COMMUNICATE
Let an adult know what step you need next to get back on track.
🌟 All feelings are okay. Our behavior is what keeps everyone safe.
