The "Why"
Engaging every student, especially in kindergarten, is crucial for fostering a love of learning and ensuring equitable access to education. This session provides actionable tools to create an inclusive and responsive classroom where all students can thrive and demonstrate their understanding.
Objective
Kindergarten teachers will identify and apply at least three practical strategies to enhance student engagement for disengaged learners, students with limited communication methods, and those struggling with classroom access.
Preparation
• Review all generated materials (Slide Deck, Handout, Discussion Prompts, Cool Down).
• Print copies of the Teacher Strategy Handout and Discussion Prompts for each participant.
• Set up projector and computer for the Slide Deck .
• Arrange seating for small group collaboration.

We'll specifically focus on how to boost engagement for quiet students, provide more ways to show thinking, and help all students access routines.
Slide 2 Share Your Spark! Time: 4-5 Mins
"To get our minds warmed up, I want you to recall a time when a kindergarten student really surprised you – maybe they were usually quiet, but then they showed you their understanding in a truly unique way."
Instruction: Have participants turn to a partner. Give each partner 2 minutes to share. Circulate and listen for positive examples to shout out later.
