Pizza Picnic Facilitation Guide
Pizza Picnic Guide
Instructional Strategies for Fractions as Parts of a Whole
Learning Goal
Students will understand that a whole can be divided into equal parts (halves and fourths) using visual and tactile pizza models.
Adaptation Focus
- Simplified, repetitive vocabulary
- High-contrast visual supports
- Errorless learning prompts
- Reduced fine-motor demand
Activity: Build-a-Pizza
1. Materials
Yellow paper plates (cheesy crust), red markers, pre-cut brown "crust" circles, and "toppings" (stickers or pom-poms).
2. The "Fold"
Guide the student to fold their "pizza" plate in half. Use a thick black marker to trace the fold line together.
3. Top it Off
Instruct: "Put 2 pepperonis on one half." Model this first. Use physical hand-over-hand if needed.
