MIND BUG DEBUGGING
FACILITATOR GUIDE
WHY THIS METAPHOR BYPASSES COMBATIVENESS
Highly intellectual, autistic, and systemizing students often reject traditional "positive thinking" activities. They perceive them as mathematically illogical, patronizing, or "fake."
By framing negative automatic thoughts as "logic bugs" rather than moral or behavioral failures, we strip away personal shame. We don't ask the student to "think happy thoughts"—we ask them to identify a syntax error in their cognitive engine and write a robust, logical code patch to fix system performance.
THE 3-STEP SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC
01 / DETECT BUG
Locate the high-charge negative thought pattern immediately after a system trigger.
02 / RUN SYNTAX CHECK
Identify the logic error (distortion) using the Mind Bug Taxonomy.
03 / DEPLOY PATCH
Write an objectively accurate, evidence-supported replacement thought.
MIND BUG TAXONOMY (COGNITIVE DISTORTIONS)
BUG_01: BINARY
Binary Output Error (All-or-Nothing Thinking)
The mind processes scenarios in only two states: 100% Perfect or 100% Corrupted . There are no middle parameters. (e.g., "I made one error, so this program is garbage." )
BUG_02: TELEMETRY
False Telemetry Loop (Mind Reading)
The mind claims to have received data from other users' servers without running a query. (e.g., "He looked at me, which means he is actively programming an exit strategy from our friendship." )
BUG_03: OVERLOAD
System Collapse Prediction (Catastrophizing)
Extrapolating a minor latency spike into an inevitable, total hardware explosion. (e.g., "I don't understand this math concept, which means I will fail the year and never get into university." )

SESSION IMPLEMENTATION PLAN (40 MINS)
10M
System Boot & Metaphor Intro
Introduce the brain-as-computer concept. Clarify that negative feelings are not behavioral faults but performance glitches (logic bugs) to be resolved through clean code.
15M
Cooperative Debugging (Scenario Cards)
Use the "Scenario Debugger Cards." Read a bug report card together. Ask the student to identify which "Bug Type" is interfering, then brainstorm an objective code patch.
15M
Workspace Application & Wrap-up
Have the student write down an active, personal negative system loop on their "Mind Debugger Organizer" and apply a patch. Lock in the new code with a high-performance verbal ping.
COMBATIVENESS BYPASS DEPLOYMENT MANUAL
If the student insists on their negative thought (e.g., "But I AM bad at math! The teacher literally had to help me three times!" ), avoid contradicting them. Instead, query the syntax using logic:
Trap: Empathy/Reassurance Protocol: Querying System Logic
Do Not Say
"That's not true, you're so smart at math! You can do anything!"
Reason: Student detects false telemetry and rejects it as emotional manipulation.
Instead Say
"Let's look at the source data. Does asking for help mean 'bad at math' or does it mean the compiler is updating its libraries?"
Reason: Re-frames help-seeking as system optimization rather than system failure.
Trap: Moralizing / Compliance Protocol: Performance Analysis
Do Not Say
"You need to stop being so negative, it makes other kids not want to play."
Reason: Induces shame, leading to defensive combative feedback loops.
Instead Say
"When the mind runs the 'Everybody hates me' bug loop, how much RAM is it consuming? Does it help or stall your gameplay?"
Reason: Focuses purely on efficiency and utility of the thought.

STEP 01
GENERATE ERROR LOG (THE TRIGGER & THOUGHT)
SYSTEM TRIGGER (What actual event or scenario started the loop?)
ERROR MESSAGE (What negative statements did your brain start running?)
STEP 02
CLASSIFY THE SYSTEM GLITCH
Review your "Error Message" above. Which cognitive system bug is currently causing the processing delay? (Check all that apply)
BUG_01
BINARY OUTPUT ERROR
Processing situations in absolute extremes (100% perfect or 100% ruined). No middle parameters.
BUG_02
FALSE TELEMETRY
Claiming to receive server thoughts from other people without scanning or running direct queries.
BUG_03
SYSTEM COLLAPSE
Extrapolating a minor latency spike or localized problem into an inevitable, total system crash.
STEP 03
CONSTRUCT CODE PATCH (RE-FRAMING METRICS)
SOURCE DATA INQUIRY (What real, observable facts prove your error message is inaccurate or incomplete?)
DEPLOYED CODE PATCH (Rewrite the thought with 100% verified, objective, and useful parameters)

How to play: Read the Raw Error Output on a card. Identify which bug (Binary, Telemetry, or Collapse) is running, and construct a logical "Code Patch" to resolve it.
BUG_TICKET_01 SEVERITY: HIGH
The Minecraft Override
Trigger: A classmate suggests changing the build rules halfway through your co-op survival project.
> "They are completely ruining our world. If we change my rules, there is literally no point in playing."
Diagnose Bug: BINARY / TELEMETRY / COLLAPSE
BUG_TICKET_02 SEVERITY: MED
The Science Grade Lag
Trigger: Your science exam gets returned with an 84% (B) score instead of your usual 100%.
> "I failed this test. I'm obviously losing my intelligence and won't ever be a coder."
Diagnose Bug: BINARY / TELEMETRY / COLLAPSE
BUG_TICKET_03 SEVERITY: HIGH
The Corridor Ping
Trigger: You walk up to a group of boys talking at recess, and they immediately walk the other direction.
> "They hate me and were talking bad about me. Nobody at this school wants to be my teammate."
Diagnose Bug: BINARY / TELEMETRY / COLLAPSE
BUG_TICKET_04 SEVERITY: CRITICAL
