Dear Parents, Guardians, and Partners in Learning,
Welcome to an exciting new school year! Whether your family is transitioning from elementary school or moving up another grade, middle school is a beautifully transformative time. Along with new locker combinations and class schedules comes an incredibly exciting opportunity: supporting your child in becoming an active, confident self-advocate.
I want to start by making a vital promise: You are the foremost expert on your child. Your insights, history, and goals are the cornerstone of our strategy. In this classroom, we do not view an IEP as a document of limitations, but rather as a highly structured, collaborative blueprint for success. We are a team, and you are our most crucial member.
Structured Support
We break down classroom routines, visual schedules, and organizational skills to reduce transition anxiety.
Growing Autonomy
We help students understand their own learning styles, express their needs, and lead their own progress.
Middle school introduces dynamic schedules and changing peer circles. To keep our communication seamless, we will utilize a bi-weekly IEP Snapshot & Communication Log (attached to this letter). This tool simplifies your child’s learning plan into actionable, digestible pieces so that we are always speaking the same language, tracking the same metrics, and celebrating the same milestones.
Our Communication Commitment
- Bi-Weekly Updates: Every other Friday, I will send home a brief progress update focusing on current IEP benchmark metrics.
- 24-Hour Reply: I respect your time. I will return all emails and phone calls within one business day.
- Open Collaboration: Please never hesitate to reach out if you notice changes in homework behavior, anxiety levels, or energy at home.
Please take a few moments to review the attached Goal Getter IEP Snapshot. I ask that you sit down with your child, fill out the first two sections together (strengths and home preferences), and return it with them to school. This collaborative feedback will directly influence how we configure their workspace and daily routines.
In enthusiastic partnership,
Your Special Education Team
