Crayon Champion Social Narrative
I Can Be a Crayon Champion!
My Clean-Up Social Narrative
Champion Name
Step 1 Coloring Time
I love drawing and coloring with crayons! It makes my heart feel happy to design beautiful pictures and share my bright colors.
Step 2 The Clean-Up Bell
Sometimes, my teacher rings the bell and says: "Time to put the crayons away!" I might feel sad or mad because I want to keep coloring. My hands might squeeze tight.
IMPORTANT
Step 3 Keeping Safe
It is okay to feel mad when coloring stops. But flipping tables or chairs is not safe. My body must stay quiet, and my hands must stay calm to keep my classroom safe.

My Action Plan
What to do when the transition bell rings
I Can Do It!
3 Breaths
Choice A Deep Balloon Breaths
If I feel mad, I stop. I take a deep breath in through my nose like blowing up a giant balloon, then blow it out of my mouth slowly. 1... 2... 3... My body gets soft and relaxed.
Choice B Ask For Help Safely
I can use a strong, calm voice. I can ask my teacher: "Can I have one more minute, please?" or "Can I take a break?" My teacher loves to say yes to safe words!
REWARD!
Reward Crayon Champion
I put my crayons back into their safe home. I earn a star on my token board! Now I get to choose my favorite reward. My teacher, my parents, and I are so proud of me!

FACILITATION GUIDE
Calm Crayon Champions Implementation
A positive behavioral support strategy for Kindergarten crayon transitions.
Target Age: 5-6 Years
Behavioral Momentum
Build a sequence of high-probability (easy compliance) requests before introducing the low-probability request ("put crayons away").
- 1. "Give me a high-five!" ⚡
- 2. "Touch your nose!" ⚡
- 3. "Do a silly wiggle!" ⚡
- 4. "Now, place 1 crayon in the box!" ✅
Functional Communication
Teach and prompt the student to use a replacement behavior (asking for a break or more time) rather than throwing items when escalated.
Prompting Hierarchy
1. Visual Prompt: Tap the schedule break card.
2. Verbal Prompt: "Do you need one more minute? Say 'more time please'."
Transition Script & Protocol
Pre-Transition (5 min)
"In 5 minutes, our crayons are going to take a nap in their warm box. Look at your First-Then board. First we put crayons in, then you get your blocks."
Momentum Launch (1 min)
Execute the high-probability compliance tasks immediately at the table (High-five, clap, silly noise). Do not let downtime occur before the next step.
Clean-Up Action (The Demand)
"Safe hands! Let's drop three crayons into the cup. (Model dropping 1). Ready, go!" Immediately reinforce compliance by placing a star token on the board.
Golden Rule
Never engage in long verbal power struggles. Minimize speech, keep a flat positive tone, and heavily reward the first sign of compliant clean-up.

CRISIS & TRACKING
Safety Containment & Progress Logging
Managing high-risk physical escalation and tracking objective behavior data.
Confidential Student Record
Crisis Escalation Protocol (If tables/chairs are flipped)
1. SECURE SPACE Do NOT pull, push, or physically block the student from moving heavy furniture unless direct bodily harm is occurring. Clear a 5-foot safety buffer.
2. EVACUATE NEIGHBORS Quietly and calmly prompt nearby peers to stand up and walk to a designated safe spot in the hallway or carpet. "Peers, let's take a safe walk."
3. EXTINGUISH ATTENTION Avoid eye contact, lecturing, or comfort-seeking statements. Wait for the behavior to complete. Keep demand intact once safe to maintain consistency.
