WORD WORKSHOP

Objective
Students will master decoding and encoding CVC and CCVC (L and S blends) words using multisensory OG strategies.

Instructional Sequence
1
Visual & Auditory Drill (5-8 min)
Show cards for a, e, i, o, u and blends (bl, cl, fl, st, sp, etc.). Students say name, keyword, and sound. Auditory: "Give me the sound for /sl/." Students write in sand.

Blending Drill (5 min)
Use the Blending Board. Change initial, medial, and final sounds. Practice "sliding" the blends: /s/ /l/ /o/ /t/ -> "slot".

New Information: L & S Blends (10 min)
Introduce CCVC structure. Explain that in "slip," /s/ and /l/ are separate but fast. Use arm-tapping for sounds: shoulder (/s/), elbow (/l/), wrist (/i/), hand (/p/).

Orthographic Mapping (10 min)
Use the "Map it Out" sheet. Teacher says word (e.g., "frog"). Student repeats, segments sounds, and places one letter/blend sound per box.

Dictation (5 min)
Pound and tap words: "clap", "spin", "step". Write a sentence: "The frog did a big hop."
