Weather Tracking Guide Teacher Companion Resource
Weather Data & Tracking Guide
Structured evaluation guide for tracking J's IEP progress (multimodal identification).
IEP Tracker: J
IEP Goal Reference:
"Given a multimodal approach (signs, pictures, gestures, verbal output), J will identify types of weather (rainy, sunny, foggy, snow, etc.), with 80% accuracy (4 out of 5 correct) in 4 out of 5 trials, as evaluated by classroom assessments."
Multimodal Modalities & Response Criteria:
G Gesture / Pointing
Student isolates index finger and directly touches or points at the target weather card/slide representation.
S ASL / Adapted Sign
Student uses functional sign language approximations (e.g., framing sun with hands, wriggling fingers for rain).
V Verbal Approximation
Student vocalizes a recognizable approximation of the weather name (e.g., "sh" for sun, "wah" for rain, "no" for snow).
P Picture Choice Exchange
Student picks up the correct physical weather card and hands it to the assessor or matches it onto the board.
Standardized Prompt Levels:
Level Prompt Style Description Scoring Effect Level 0 Independent Identifies immediately after initial standard ask ("What weather is this?") Score: Correct Level 1 Gesture Cue Assessor points to student's communication book/board as a general reminder Score: Correct Level 2 Verbal Scaffolding Assessor gives phonemic cue (e.g., "It starts with /s/...") or option choice Score: Prompted (Note) Level 3 Hand-over-Hand Physical assistance or modeling correct sign/response directly Score: Incorrect (Assist)
Important Scoring Guideline: Ensure J is assessed across 5 distinct trial periods. J must reach 4 out of 5 items correct (80%) in at least 4 out of 5 trials to achieve mastery. Use the Master Grid on Page 2 for documentation.
