Instructional Steps
5 min
Warm-Up: Superpower Check-In
Greet the student warmly. Use Slide 1 to introduce the concept of "superpowers." Engage in a check-in about their morning and readiness to learn. Discuss how they can monitor their focus levels.
5 min
Introducing Focus Tools
Use the Slide Deck to introduce three core tools: "Stop, Think, Act" (Impulse control), "Deep Breath Dragon" (Regulation), and "Look and Listen" (Attention). Explain how these tools build their focus superpowers.
10 min
Practice with Activity
Lead the hands-on building activity. Prompt the student to apply the tools (e.g., "Wait, use your Stop, Think, Act superpower before adding that block"). Provide heavy positive reinforcement for intentional focus.
5 min
Reflect and Apply
Guide a reflection using Slide 7. Ask: "When did you use your superpower today?" Help the student identify specific moments of success and connect them to classroom or home situations.
5 min
Cool-Down: Superpower Plan
Conclude by identifying ONE focus superpower to practice during the week. Have the student share a specific situation where they will use it. End with a "superhero" celebratory ritual.
Focus Superpowers Slide Deck Mission Start
Welcome,
Super Learner!
Today, we're going to unlock your amazing Focus Superpowers!
Check-in: How are you feeling today?
Teacher Note
Welcome the student and explain the 'Focus Superpowers' theme. Ask about their mood and readiness.
What are Focus Superpowers?
Control Urges
Like waiting your turn to speak!
Pay Attention
Like listening to the teacher!
Stay on Task
Like finishing your work!
We all have them, and we can make them super strong!
Teacher Note
Introduce focus powers as abilities to control impulses. Everyone has them; they just need practice.
Tool #1: Stop, Think, Act!
STOP!
🚦 Freeze for a moment!
THINK!
🤔 What should I do? What will happen?
ACT!
✅ Choose your best action!
This helps us control our impulses!
Teacher Note
Model each step with a physical gesture. Give 1st-grade relevant examples (blurting out, grabbing).
Tool #2: Deep Breath Dragon!
🌸
Step 1: In
Breathe in slowly like you're
smelling a flower.
🕯️
Step 2: Out
Breathe out slowly like you're
blowing out a candle.
Helps your body calm down and pay attention!
Teacher Note
Model the breaths clearly. Practice together twice. Explain how calming the body helps focus.
Tool #3: Look and Listen!
LOOK
At the person talking
or your work.
LISTEN
To understand the
directions.
This helps your brain focus on what's important!
Teacher Note
Explain how using eyes and ears together creates focus. Ask why this is helpful in the classroom.
Time to Practice Our Superpowers!
We're going to put our tools into action with a fun challenge. Show off your amazing focus!
Stop, Think, Act! Deep Breath Dragon! Look and Listen!
Teacher Note
Set up the activity (blocks, beads, etc.). Remind them they will be "graded" on using superpowers, not just finishing.
How Did Your Superpowers Help?
Which superpower did you use the most today?
How did it help you during the activity?
When else can you use these superpowers?
Teacher Note
Facilitate a short discussion. Encourage specific examples from the building activity.
Mission Accomplished!
You are a Focus Superhero!
Choose ONE superpower you want to practice this week.
How will you use it?
"I will use my superpower when..."
Teacher Note
Help them pick one specific goal. Encourage sharing it with their classroom teacher or parents.

Warm-Up 5 Minutes
Display Slide 1: Welcome, Super Learner!
Teacher: "Hi [Student's Name]! I'm so glad to see you today. How are you feeling this morning? Ready for some fun learning?"
(Allow student to respond. Engage briefly.)
Teacher: "That's wonderful! Today, we're going to talk about something really exciting: your Focus Superpowers! You have amazing powers inside you, and we're going to discover how to make them super strong! What do you think a 'focus superpower' might be?"
Display Slide 2: What are Focus Superpowers?
Teacher: "That's a great thought! Your focus superpowers are like special tools in your brain that help you do important things. They help you control your urges, like when you really want to talk but you know it's someone else's turn. They help you pay attention to what's important, like listening to a story or directions. And they help you stay on task to finish your work! We all have them, and with practice, we can make them super strong!"
Introduction 5 Minutes
Display Slide 3: Stop, Think, Act!
Teacher: "Our first focus superpower tool is called 'Stop, Think, Act!' Can you say that with me? 'Stop, Think, Act!' Excellent! It's like a traffic light for your brain. When you feel like you want to do something really fast, you first say STOP! inside your head (make stop gesture). Then you THINK! (tap head). And then, you ACT! (thumbs up)."
Display Slide 4: Deep Breath Dragon!
Teacher: "Our next focus superpower is called 'Deep Breath Dragon!' Breathe in slowly like you're smelling a flower. Now, breathe out slowly like you're blowing out a candle. Let's try it together a few times. This helps your body calm down and helps you pay attention."
Display Slide 5: Look and Listen!
Teacher: "Our third focus superpower is 'Look and Listen!' This one is super important for learning! When someone is talking, you LOOK with your eyes 👀 and LISTEN with your ears 👂. Why do you think 'Look and Listen' is helpful in the classroom?"

Display Slide 6: Time to Practice!
Teacher: "Fantastic! Now it's time to put your superpowers into action! We're going to build a Super Tower. As we do this, think about your tools. If you feel frustrated, what could you do? (Prompt for Breath). If you want to rush, what do you do first? (Prompt for Stop)."
(Guide student through activity, giving specific praise for using tools.)
Reflection & Wrap-Up 10 Minutes
Display Slide 7 & 8
Teacher: "You did such a great job! Which superpower did you use the most today? How did it help? You are a true Focus Superhero! To keep your powers strong, choose ONE superpower you want to practice this week. How will you use it?"
Focus Superpower Activity Guide Focus Superpower Activity
Challenge Mode
Build a Super Tower!
Objective
Practice impulse control, sustained attention, and focus while engaging in a structured building task.
Materials
Small building blocks (LEGOs, wooden blocks) or stacking beads and a flat surface.
! Teacher Instructions
1
Introduce the Challenge (2 mins)
"Today, we're going to build a super tall tower! The goal is to build the tallest tower you can without it falling. Are you ready?"
2
Model and Explain (3 mins)
Build a small section. Verbalize using a superpower: "I want to rush, but I'll STOP and THINK where to put this." or "My tower wiggled! I'll use my Deep Breath Dragon ."
3
Guided Practice (5 mins)
Observe the student. Use specific prompts:
If rushing: "Remember Stop, Think, Act. What's the first step?"
If frustrated: "Maybe a Deep Breath Dragon could help your brain now."
If distracted: "Let's try Look and Listen to your hands working."
4
Independent Practice (5 mins)
Allow independent building with less direct prompting. Focus on the process of using powers, not just the tower height.
Tips for Success
Keep the atmosphere positive and encouraging.
Adjust complexity (e.g., larger blocks if frustrated, smaller if too easy).
If the tower falls, use it as a learning moment: "Let's use our Deep Breath Dragon and try again!"
