Brain Power ReadingUnlock Your Brain's Superpowers! TOP SECRET Hey Super Student! Did you know your brain is like a super-smart command center? It has amazing powers that help you do all sorts of things, especially at school! These special brain powers are called Executive Functioning Skills. They help you think, plan, and get things done like a pro! Superpower #1: Planning Power! Imagine you want to build a magnificent LEGO castle. Would you just start throwing bricks together? Probably not! You'd probably think about: What kind of castle? (Tall? Wide?) What pieces do I need? (Walls, flags, towers?) What steps should I take first? (Build the base, then the walls?) That's planning! Planning Power is when you think ahead and decide the steps you need to take to reach a goal. How to use your Planning Power: Make a list: For homework, write down every subject you have before you start. Break it down: If a project is big, break it into tiny "mini-tasks." Time check: Guess how many minutes each task will take. Superpower #2: Organizing Power! Think about your backpack. Is it a messy mountain of papers? Or is everything in its spot? When things are messy, finding your homework is like a treasure hunt without a map! Organizing Power is about arranging your things, your time, and even your thoughts so they make sense. It makes life much less stressful! How to use your Organizing Power: Clean Sweep: Take 5 minutes every Friday to clear out your backpack. Color Code: Use a blue folder for Math and a red folder for Reading. Supplies Ready: Keep your pencils, eraser, and ruler in one specific box. Superpower #3: Self-Monitoring! Imagine a pilot flying a plane. They don't just close their eyes! They constantly check the dials and maps to make sure they are on the right path. Self-Monitoring Power is checking in with yourself. It's asking, "Am I doing this right?" or "Does this answer make sense?" before you finish. How to use your Monitoring Power: The 2-Minute Check: Before turning work in, look at every page one last time. Reread: Read your sentences out loud. Do they sound correct? Goal Check: Ask: "Did I actually do what the teacher asked for?"
