Body Radar Lesson Plan
BODY RADAR: STOP • THINK • GO
15-Minute Intensive Behavioral Intervention | Tier 2–3 PBIS
15 Minutes 1-on-1 Kinesthetic Protocol
Behaviors Addressed
Motor restlessness, grabbing items, out-of-seat wandering, blurt-outs, and crowding peers.
Core Mastery Goal
Executes Stop-Think-Go to remain in zone, freeze hands before touching, and use silent signal over 3 simulations.
2-Min Props
Hula-hoop or tape circle, 2 test props (ball, pen), desk cue strip.
0:00 – 3:00 Phase 1: Proprioceptive Warm-Up & Bubble Perimeter
Heavy Work Grounding
1. Motor Engine Reset (Wall Push-Offs): Complete 5 firm wall push-offs or palms-together isometric presses. Rationale: Heavy joint input calms motor drive and centers body awareness.
2. Launch Pad Perimeter: Position student in taped floor circle or hoop. Establish the boundary rule: "This is your Radar Ring. Both feet stay anchored until Green Go signal."
3:00 – 7:00 Phase 2: Direct Instruction — The 3 Body Brakes
Kinesthetic Coding
1. STOP (Body Brake)
Feet plant flat on floor. Hands clasp tightly in lap or chest ("Lock the parking brake").
Cue: "Brakes on! Clasp & plant."
2. THINK (Radar Scan)
Inhale 3 seconds. Look with eyes: "Am I inside my bubble? Do I have permission?"
Cue: "Look with eyes, not fingers."
3. GO (Smart Move)
Silent hand raise or ask: "May I have that?" Step with slow walking feet.
Cue: "Green means ask and glide."
7:00 – 12:00 Phase 3: The 3 "Live Hazard" Kinesthetic Simulations
Active Guided Practice
Sim 1
Perimeter Freeze Challenge (Wandering): Student walks toward the far wall. Educator calls "Radar Freeze!" Student must lock brakes instantly, verify 2-arm distance from obstacles, and hold still for 3 seconds.
Sim 2
Shiny Object Temptation (Touching): Walk past an enticing toy on a table. Student must keep hands clasped behind back, point chin at item, and state: "My eyes see it. May I hold it after we finish?"
Sim 3
Blurt-Buster Silent Tap (Interrupting): Educator begins reading aloud. Student is prompted to share an idea, but must place two fingers on educator's arm and wait quietly until teacher turns and gives the green nod.
12:00 – 15:00 Phase 4: Debrief, Desk Anchor Setup & Reinforcement
Classroom Transfer
1. Self-Rating
Student awards themselves 1–3 stars based on today’s brake responsiveness.
2. Desk Strip Setup
Laminated Stop-Think-Go strip is taped directly onto student desk edge.
3. Classroom Mission
Goal: Catch self using body brakes 2 times during general class time.
Educator Rule: Avoid grabbing or steering the student physically. Rely on silent visual cards and clear space rings.

In-the-Moment Redirection Scripts (Low Emotion, High Clarity)
When Wandering Out of Area
Avoid: "Sit back down right now!"
Say: "Radar alert! Hit your body brakes—Stop! [Show red card]. Look at your feet. Find your home ring in 3... 2... 1. Safe landing."
Refocuses motor control without power struggle.
When Touching / Grabbing Items
Avoid: "Stop touching everything!"
Say: "Hands to pockets. Yellow Think: Eyes are looking, fingers are resting. Tell me what it looks like before we touch."
Redirects impulsive motor drive to verbalization.
When Blurting / Crowding Bubble
Avoid: "Don't interrupt me!"
Say: "Airplane wings check! [Extend arms]. Step back into your bubble. Hold your thought balloon on your elbow tap."
Re-establishes physical perimeter instantly.
Classroom Accommodations & Sensory Modifications
1. Tactile Desk Strip: Attach rough hook-and-loop (Velcro) under desk lip to feed sensory-seeking fingers quietly.
2. Visual Perimeter Tape: Tape a subtle border around the desk footprint to mark a concrete personal boundary.
3. Heavy-Work Reset: Assign carrying book crates or wiping whiteboards during transitions to burn motor drive.

Rotation Guidance: Swap in 1–2 of these targeted simulations during Phase 3 based on the student's specific daily need.
Tier 2 Drill Bank
1. Wandering & Floor Restlessness (Vestibular & Inhibitory Control) Replaces Sim 1
A. Tightrope Tape Freeze Brake Drill
Lay a 10-foot painter's tape line. Student walks heel-to-toe. Educator calls "Freeze!" Student must lock on 1 foot for 3 seconds without stepping off.
Mechanism: Challenges cerebellar balance to force cognitive braking.
B. Cargo Checkpoint Delivery Heavy Work
Student carries a weighted crate (3 lbs) to a target desk, pausing at 2 taped "Stop-Think Checkpoints" to exhale before resuming movement.
Mechanism: Joint compression exhausts pent-up roaming impulses.
2. Object Grabbing & Tactile Impulsivity (Inhibition & Delay) Replaces Sim 2
C. Museum Steering Wheel Bilateral Grip
Student navigates past tables loaded with squishies and markers holding a ring with both hands. If a hand leaves the wheel, student steps back 2 paces.
Mechanism: Bilateral motor grip physically blocks impulsive grabbing.
D. Ice Cube Restraint Hold Delay Hold
Place a novelty clicker in student's open palm. Rule: "Hold like an ice cube—feel weight with eyes open, zero clicks for 10 full seconds."
Mechanism: De-links sensory contact from immediate motor execution.
3. Blurting & Interrupting (Vocal Inhibitory Pathways) Replaces Sim 3
E. 3-Pop Sensory Bubble Filter Tactile Sequence
Student holds a 3-button fidget pop. Before speaking: Pop 1 = Stop voice, Pop 2 = Inhale breath (Think), Pop 3 = Raise hand (Go). Speak only on teacher nod.
Mechanism: Chunks vocal urgency into tactile step-by-step pauses.
F. The Talking Token Relay Turn Prop
A soft beanbag sits between student and teacher. Student may only vocalize while holding beanbag. If blurt occurs without prop, token resets to teacher.
Mechanism: Tangible visual-tactile possession replaces vocal competition.
4. Personal Space & Proximity Calibration (Spatial Awareness) Alternative Spatial Drill
G. Astronaut Airlock Approaching Proximity Metric
Student walks toward teacher and halts at what they perceive is 2 arm-lengths, calling "Airlock check!" Both reach forward to test fingertip distance.
Mechanism: Calibrates internal visual metric against physical reality.
H. Hula-Hoop Bumper Navigation Perimeter Armor
Student holds hoop at waist level and navigates around 3 chairs and adult without allowing hoop to touch any object or person.
Mechanism: Physical perimeter acts as external sensory nervous system.
Progression Metric: Begin with 3-second motor freeze holds. Gradually advance to 7-second holds as neurological inhibitory stamina develops.
