5 Min
Warm-up: The Big Trip
Ask: "Have you ever traveled to a different city or state?" Then explain: "Today, we aren't just going to another city. We are taking a trip around the whole world!" Introduce the Globe as a model of our planet.
10 Min
Viewing & Finding
Play the video segment (0:45-1:17) in the World Tour Slides . Crucial Instruction: Pause after each continent is named. Students must point to that continent on their Desk Map .
20 Min
Activity: Passport Stamp Station
Give each student a Passport Booklet . Explain that to "visit" a continent, they must:
Find the station in the room.
Identify the continent on the sign.
Color in that continent on the correct page of their passport.
Apply the sticker/stamp in the "Official Entry" circle.
Read the fun fact with a partner or teacher.
Pro-Tip: Release students in small groups to different stations to avoid overcrowding.
5-10 Min
Closure: Travel Recap
Gather on the rug with passports. Ask these review questions:
Which continent is at the very bottom of the globe and is very cold? (Antarctica)
Which continent is the largest? (Asia)
Which continent is the smallest? (Australia)
Which continent do we live on? (North America)
Extension: Animal Ambassador
Ask students to turn to the back page of their passport. Have them draw one animal that lives on their favorite continent. Example: A panda in Asia, a lion in Africa, or a penguin in Antarctica!
Support
Provide students with a pre-colored map to match their coloring. Pair them with a "Travel Buddy" for reading the facts.
Challenge
Ask students to write one extra fact they noticed from the station signs onto their passport pages.
