A story about Mateo and Sofía's special festival day in Spain
Part 1
1
Chapter 1: The Golden Morning
☀️ Seville, Spain
Clang! Clang! Church bells chimed across the terracotta rooftops. Eight-year-old Mateo popped out of bed and rushed to open the wooden window shutters. The morning sun filled his bedroom with warm golden light.
"Wake up, Mateo!" called his little sister, Sofía. She skipped into the hallway with bright red ribbons tied in her dark curls. She fluttered a beautiful handheld paper fan decorated with red painted carnations. "Today is the town Fiesta!"
Downstairs in the kitchen, Abuela (Grandmother) was frying long spirals of dough in sizzling oil. The kitchen smelled sweet like cinnamon and sugar. "Eat your churros while they are piping hot," Abuela smiled, setting down two mugs of thick, warm chocolate. Mateo dipped his crispy churro into the sweet chocolate. It was delicious!
2
Chapter 2: The Colorful Plaza
🌺 Town Square
After breakfast, Papa led Mateo and Sofía down the cobblestone streets toward the main plaza. Long strings of colorful paper flags and paper lanterns fluttered in the gentle breeze between tall palm trees.
In the middle of the plaza, neighbors were working together at the festival craft tables. They were building a giant parade float shaped like the shining Spanish sun.
"Would you children like to help?" asked Doña Elena. Mateo carefully glued bright yellow marigold petals around the outer sun rays, while Sofía arranged red ribbons around the base. Everyone in the square was smiling and working together as friends.
📖 Read on to find out what happens at the festival in the evening!

Chapter 3: The Strumming Guitar
🎸 Music in the Air
Suddenly, sweet music filled the warm plaza air. Señor Ortiz sat on a carved wooden bench, his fingers dancing across the strings of his wooden Spanish guitar. The tune was fast, cheerful, and full of energy!
Clap-clap-clap! The crowd began clapping to the sharp beat. Two flamenco dancers stepped onto the wooden stage. They wore magnificent crimson dresses with layers of flowing ruffles. Their wooden heels tapped the stage in crisp rhythms: tac-tac-tac!
Sofía could not stand still. She snapped her handheld fan open with a soft click, twirled around in a graceful circle, and stamped her red shoes just like the dancers. Mateo clapped his hands and cheered, "Bravo, Sofía!"
