- The axial tilt + orbital revolution = the seasonal cycles.
Seasonal Turning Points
Equinox March 21 & Sept 23 Sun strikes the Equator (0°). Global day and night are completely equal in length ("equal night").
Summer Solstice June 21 - 22 Sun strikes the Tropic of Cancer (23 ½° N). Bring the longest day of sunlight to Northern Hemisphere.
Winter Solstice December 21 - 22 Sun strikes the Tropic of Capricorn (23 ½° S). Shortest day of sunlight for Northern Hemisphere.
The Greenhouse Effect (El Efecto Invernadero)
The greenhouse effect is a natural process where atmospheric gases (water vapor, CO₂, methane) trap reflected infrared heat, maintaining temperatures compatible with life (averaging 60°F instead of 0°F).
Disruption: Industrial fossil fuel combustion raises atmospheric CO₂, preventing natural balancing and forcing climate change.
Without greenhouse: 0°F (-18°C) global average
