Saint Patrick's Day Celebration

"He wasn't actually Irish!"
1 Born in Britain over 1,600 years ago.
2 Traveled to Ireland to teach and help people.
3 The holiday honors his life and Irish heritage.
A Legendary Figure
The Leprechaun Legend
☘️
Shoemaker
Leprechauns are tiny fairies who love to cause mischief!
They spend their time making tiny shoes and guarding their gold .
Legend says if you catch one, he might give you three wishes .
Your Mission: The Trap!
Leprechauns are smart, fast, and very tricky. To catch one, we need to think like an engineer.
1. Lure
What will attract them? Gold? Sparkles? Shiny things?
2. Snare
How will you keep them inside? A box? A net? A ladder?
3. Escape-Proof
They are slippery! How do you stop them from vanishing?

Project Overview
After students complete their Trap Architect Blueprints , it's time to build! This hands-on STEM craft uses simple recycled materials to bring their designs to life. Focus on "engineering" concepts like stability, lures, and entry points.
Suggested Supply Bin
Shoeboxes or Tissue boxes
Paper towel rolls
Popsicle sticks & pipe cleaners
Green construction paper
Gold glitter or foil (the "Lure")
Tape, glue, and safety scissors
Trap Variations
The "Gold Pit"
A hole in the top of a box covered with thin paper and fake gold coins on top.
The "Ladder Lure"
Pipe cleaner ladders leading to a shiny interior that traps the leprechaun.
Building Steps
1
Base Construction
Pick a box and wrap it in green paper. This makes it look like it belongs in the Emerald Isle.
2
The Entry Way
Cut a door or a hole. Add a ladder made of popsicle sticks or straws so the leprechaun can climb up.
3
The Golden Trap
Place the "gold" inside. Add sticky tape or a "falling" lid that moves when they grab the gold!
Post-Build Discussion
"Why did you choose that specific lure for your leprechaun?"
"What was the hardest part about making your trap stay standing?"

The Power of Three
What is a Shamrock?
It's a young clover! Saint Patrick used it to teach three parts of a whole.
Four-Leaf Clovers
These are ultra-rare . Only 1 in 10,000 clovers has four leaves!
"Four leaves for..."

3. LOVE
4. LUCK
The Pot of Gold
Legend says leprechauns hide their treasure at the end of the rainbow .
Fun Fact!
Rainbows are actually full circles . You can only see the half-circle from the ground. Since they have no real end, the gold is safe forever!
Ask: Have you ever seen a rainbow after a storm?
