The Orange Slice Demonstration (Concrete Modeling)
Hold up whole orange: "Is this a flat pancake circle or a round 3D ball?" (A ball! A sphere!).
Cut Orange #1 horizontally: "Look! I cut it right across the middle like a belt. Now I have a Top Half and a Bottom Half . In geography, half a ball is called a HEMISPHERE !"
Cut Orange #2 vertically: "Can I cut it up-and-down from stem to bottom? Yes! Now we have a Left Half and a Right Half !"

Motion 1: The Equator Belt
Hands wrap around belly waistline horizontally. Say: "Equator in the middle! North on top, South down low!"
Motion 2: The Prime Meridian Zipper
One karate-chop hand slides straight up and down nose to belly. Say: "Prime Meridian stands tall! West on left, East on right!"
Rug Grid Game: Have students jump across the blue tape line (Equator) into "Northern Hemisphere" (cheer with hands up) and "Southern Hemisphere" (crouch low).
