Key Materials
Flashlights
Straight tubes (PVC or paper towel)
Bent tubes (elbow joints)
Lesson Flow
Part Activity Time Warm-Up The Tube Test: Try to see light through a straight tube vs. a bent one. 5 min Presentation "Straight Shooter Slides". Focus on the arrow icon for direction. 10 min Activity Laser Maze: Line up flashlights to hit a target. 15 min Practice Pathfinder Worksheet: Drawing straight lines. 10 min
Facilitation Prompts
"Does the light curve like a snake, or stay straight like a ruler?"
"Put your hand in front of the beam. Can the light go around you?"
"Follow the beam with your finger."
Sensory Support
Use a laser pointer (with safety precautions) to clearly show a sharp beam. Clapping erasers or using a small fog machine/spray bottle can make the beam "visible" in the air, which is a powerful visual aid for Essential Skills learners.
