Your Assignment: The Expose
You are an investigative journalist for The Reformer's Report. You have seen how Jacob Riis used his camera to expose tenements and how Ida Tarbell used meticulous research to challenge Standard Oil. Now, it is your turn to "rake the muck."
The Mission
Identify a current social, political, or economic issue that you believe requires reform. Following the methods of the Progressive Era muckrakers, outline your plan to expose this "muck" to the public.
1. The Target
What is the specific issue or group you are investigating? (e.g., child labor, factory safety, corporate greed, political corruption)
2. The Methodology
Which muckraker's style will you use? Will you go "undercover" like Sinclair, use "data/records" like Tarbell, or "photography" like Riis? Explain your choice.
