Job Fair Plan Pre-K Civics & Community 30 Minutes
Classroom Helpers Job Fair Plan
Teacher Facilitation Guide
Unit: Caring Community
Learning Objective
Students will identify at least three classroom helper roles and volunteer for one by selecting a visual application card, demonstrating developing responsibility to their classroom community.
Key Vocabulary
Role: A special helper job.
Responsibility: Doing our part.
Community: Our school family.
30-Minute Instructional Arc
00-06 min
1. Circle Time Launch: "Who Keeps Our Room Running?"
Gather on the rug. Project Helper Role Slides . Introduce the concept of a helper team . Chant the Helper Call-and-Response: "Hands up, hearts ready, our team is strong and steady!" Model 2 helper roles with props (e.g., watering can, clipboard).
06-18 min
2. Interactive Mini-Station Fair Rotations
Divide class into 4 small scout groups (3 mins per station). At each station, students explore real classroom tools, roleplay duties with the Job Interview Script , and identify the role's purpose:
🚶 Line Captain 📚 Library Scout 🍎 Snack & Wipe 🌱 Eco & Light Guard
18-23 min
3. The 1-Minute Job "Application" & Badge Ceremony
Students return to tables with their visual Job Application Ticket . Each child marks their top helper choice by circling the picture icon or stamping it, brings it to the "Fair Desk," and receives their official wearable Job Badge with helper lanyard or safety clip.
23-30 min
4. Community Circle Reflection & Helper Oath
Gather in a helper circle wearing badges. Have 3 volunteers share: "My job is ___ and it helps us by ___." Recite the Classroom Helper Promise together. Reinforce how individual actions create a caring community.
Materials Needed Ahead of Time
Helper Role Slides on screen / tablet display
Station visual mats & physical props (tray, sponge, book, wand)
Printed Job Interview Script prompt cards at each station
Pre-cut Job Badges & Yarn / Clips for each student
Teacher Prep Tip
For 3-4 year olds, emphasize that all jobs rotate weekly so everyone gets a turn. Highlight that being a helper means feeling proud and taking care of our friends and space!

Differentiation & Support Strategies
Dual Language Learners
Pair each role name with iconic visual gestures (holding door, reading, eating, watering) and bilingual picture tags.
Sensory & Motor Needs
Provide ergonomic helper tools (soft foam broom, easy-squeeze spray bottle, clip badges instead of neck lanyards).
Shy / Hesitant Learners
Introduce "Helper Buddies" where two children share a role together to build confidence before doing solo tasks.
Formative Assessment Check (Objective Check)
Observe during circle and application check:
Identification: Can the child name or point to 3 different roles (e.g., door holder, book doctor, snack helper)?
Volunteering: Did the student willingly pick 1 helper role card and state why it helps our room family?
