Read List A (Grocery List) to the class at a steady pace (1 word per 2 seconds). List A: Milk, Eggs, Bread, Spinach, Apples, Tuna, Butter, Cereal, Yogurt, Coffee.
Ask students to record their recall on the worksheet. Briefly discuss: "Who remembered the first word? The last? Why?"
2. Instruction: Decay & Ebbinghaus (15 mins)
Use the Vanishing Act Slides to introduce Ebbinghaus. Focus on the idea that memory loss is not linear but exponential. Highlight that "forgetting" isn't always losing information—it's often a failure of retrieval .
3. Activity: The Interference Challenge (20 mins)
Read List B (Hardware List) . Tell students NOT to write it down. List B: Hammer, Nails, Screws, Plywood, Drill, Level, Wrench, Paint, Sandpaper, Shovel.
Immediately have them do the mental math on the worksheet. This prevents "rehearsal" and creates a cognitive load.

Introduce Schema Theory using the slides. Use the "High School Classroom" example. Ask students why they don't have to "learn" what a desk is every time they enter a room—their schema does the work for them.
