In research trials, participants asked to describe an office they sat in for only 35 seconds routinely "remembered" seeing books on shelves—even though the test office contained absolutely zero books.

The group asked the "Smashed" question gave significantly faster speed estimations.
More shocking: One week later, when asked if they saw broken glass, 32% of the "Smashed" group claimed they saw broken glass. There was absolutely no broken glass in the original video clip.
