PART 1
What is a Cell?
A cell is the tiny (building block) that makes up every living thing. Dogs, trees, bugs, and humans are all made of cells!
Rule 1
Every living thing has or more cells.
Rule 2
Cells are the smallest parts of .
Rule 3
New cells are made when cells .
What is an Organelle? It means "tiny organ." Your body has organs like your heart and lungs. A cell has tiny helper parts called organelles to do everyday jobs!
PART 2
Organelles: The Gatekeeper & The Boss
1. Cell Membrane
Analogy: The Security Gate / Door
• What it is: The flexible outer skin around the whole cell.
• Its Main Job: Decides what goes and what goes .
• Lets in clean water and , and keeps bad stuff out!
Quick Question
Like a front door, it can open to friends and lock out .
2. Nucleus
Analogy: The Brain / Boss's Office
• What it is: The round center that gives orders to the cell.
• Its Main Job: Keeps the cell's instruction manual safe: DNA.
• DNA is like a book that tells the cell how to grow.
Circle One
The nucleus is the boss of the cell.
YES NO
Cytoplasm (Cell Jelly): The clear, squishy jelly that fills the cell so all parts can float safely!
Like: Jell-O / Water

The Power & Building Team
Ribosomes • Endoplasmic Reticulum • Mitochondria • Lysosomes
Part 3: More Helpers
3. Ribosomes
Analogy: The Tiny Builders
• What they do: Ribosomes are tiny dots that build proteins.
• Why we need them: Proteins help your body build muscle and heal scrapes!
4. Endoplasmic Reticulum (The "ER")
Analogy: The Cell Highway / Hallways
• What it is: Tunnels and pathways that run inside the cell.
• Its Main Job: Helps move materials from one spot to another, like a delivery truck!
• Rough ER: Bumpy with ribosomes.
• Smooth ER: Smooth, clear tunnels.
5. Mitochondria
Nickname: "The Powerhouse"
• Its Main Job: Turns food into energy that the cell can use!
• Acts like a battery to power up the cell.
Fun Fact:
Which body cells have the most?
[ M _ _ C L E ] cells!
6. Lysosomes
Analogy: The Clean-Up Crew
• What they do: Little sacs that break down and clean up waste.
• They get rid of worn-out cell parts and fight off sneaky (germs)!
CHALLENGE
Cell City Match-Up!
Write the letter of the matching city helper next to each organelle:
1. Cell Membrane ___
2. Nucleus ___
3. Mitochondria ___
4. Ribosomes ___
5. Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) ___
6. Lysosomes ___
A. Power Plant (Makes Energy)
B. City Hall / Boss (Gives Orders)
C. Security Guard / Door
D. Recycling & Trash Truck
