Create the Train
Add a simple object like a Cube or Cylinder . This will be your train car!
Create the Track
Add a Curve (Bezier or Path). This is the track your train will follow!
Open Blender & Start Building!

Animating a Train on a Path in Blender
Have you ever wondered how animated characters or objects move smoothly through a scene? Often, they follow a pre-defined path! In this guide, we'll learn how to make a train model follow a track in Blender.
Why Animate Along a Path?
Animating objects along a path is a powerful technique. It helps create smooth, precise, and realistic movements for vehicles, cameras, or even characters. It's much easier than manually keyframing every single position!
Key Terms
Follow Path
A constraint that snaps an object to a curve.
Bezier Curve
A type of flexible path defined by control points.
Keyframe
A marker in time that tells Blender where an object should be.
! Step-by-Step Guide
1. Set Up Your Scene: The Train and the Track
First, you need two main things: your object (the train) and the path it will follow (the track).
Add Your Train
Go to Add > Mesh > Cylinder .
Scale and shape it like a simple train car.
Position it near the start of your track area.
Add Your Track
Go to Add > Curve > Bezier or Path .
Use Edit Mode (Tab) to grab (G) and move points.
Shape a winding track for your train.
2. Connect Your Train: The Follow Path Constraint
Now we tell the train to stick to the track.
1. Select the Train: Click on your train model in Object Mode.
2. Add Constraint: Go to the Object Constraint Properties tab (looks like two chain links).
3. Choose Follow Path: Click Add Object Constraint and pick Follow Path.
4. Set the Target: Use the eyedropper to click your curve path.
3. Make It Move!
While your train is selected, simply click the Animate Path button inside the constraint settings. This automatically sets up the timeline for 250 frames of movement.
4. Play the Animation
Go to the Timeline editor at the bottom. Press the Spacebar to play. Your train should now smoothly follow the path you created!
