Reused and recycled between living things and the environment. Total amount stays the same.
Energy
FLOWS
A one-way street. Enters as sunlight, moves through food webs, and exits as heat.

Water Cycle
Evaporation: Liquid to gas (oceans).
Transpiration: Water vapor from plants.
Condensation: Vapor to clouds.
Precipitation: Rain, snow, sleet.
Carbon Flows
Photosynthesis: Pulls CO₂ out.
Respiration: Puts CO₂ back.
Combustion: Rapid CO₂ release.
The Global Balance
Carbon Cycle
Carbon is the "building block" of life. It moves between the atmosphere, oceans, soil, and living tissues.
Matter Cycles
Nitrogen Cycle
78% of air is Nitrogen ($N_2$), but most life can't use it in gas form. We need bacteria to fix it!
Fixation: Bacteria turn $N_2$ into usable forms.
Assimilation: Plants absorb nitrogen through roots.
Denitrification: Bacteria release $N_2$ back to air.
