Who Am I?
1
- I live in the high mountains of Central Asia.
- My thick fur is smoky-grey with dark spots.
- I am the "Ghost of the Mountains."
2
- I am a great ape found only in rainforests.
- My name means "Person of the Forest."
- I have long, shaggy reddish fur.
3
- I live in the misty bamboo forests of China.
- I am famous for my black and white coat.
- I eat up to 26–84 lbs of bamboo daily!
Ecosystem Spotlight
Focus: 6:20 - 7:16
Embedded media
As you watch, listen for the Climate and Vegetation that defines each animal's home.
Design Challenge
Your Mission:
Design a world-class conservation park enclosure for one of the animals from the video.
Climate Control: Temp & Precipitation
Vegetation: Native trees & food plants
Terrain: Rocks, water, elevation
Success Criteria
- • Labeled blueprint of the habitat
- • List of specific native plants
- • Temperature & Water settings
- • Explanation of how it mimics nature
Critical Thinking
"Why wouldn't a Camel from the Gobi Desert survive in the rainforests of Borneo?"
Gobi Camel
Built for extreme cold/heat, very dry air, and sparse scrub vegetation.
Borneo Rainforest
Constant high humidity, 100+ inches of rain, and dense jungle canopy.

Eco-Expedition Asia
Exploring Biodiversity and Habitats of East & Southeast Asia
Learning Objectives
- Identify key wildlife species unique to East and Southeast Asia.
- Correlate specific biomes (Rainforest, Mountain, Grassland) with the animals that inhabit them.
- Design a habitat that mimics natural climate and vegetation conditions.
- Analyze how environment dictates species survival through comparative discussion.
Pacing & Flow
00-05 min Warm-up: Guessing Game (Slide 2)
05-20 min Video Viewing & Field Notes (Slide 3)
20-40 min Habitat Designer Challenge (Slide 4)
40-45 min Closure: Group Sharing & Debate (Slide 5)
Preparation Checklist
- Video link tested and cued to 6:20.
- Wildlife Warden Worksheets printed.
- Colored pencils/markers for design phase.
- Scratch paper for rough drafts.
Expedition Answer Key

2. Video Field Notes
| Animal | Habitat/Biome | Key Details (Video) |
|---|
| Snow Leopard | Grasslands / High Mountains | Himalayas, rugged terrain, cold alpine climates. |
| Orangutan | Tropical Rainforest | Borneo/Sumatra, humid, dense canopy, high rainfall. |
| Giant Panda | Temperate Bamboo Forest | Central China, misty, moderate climate, bamboo diet. |
Habitat Designers: Facilitation
The Challenge Script
"You are Lead Habitat Architects for the Asia Wildlife Trust. Your job isn't just to make a pretty cage, but to build a home. If you were an Orangutan, what would you need to feel like you were still in Borneo? High trees? Humidity? Specific fruit? Use the details from our video to prove your design is scientifically accurate."
Group Formation
Place students in "Specialist Groups" of 3-4. Ideally, each group should have at least one architect for each animal (Panda expert, Leopard expert, etc.) to allow for diverse sharing later.
Small Group Sharing
During the final 5 minutes, have students "Tour" each other's blueprints. Encourage them to ask:
"How did you keep the Snow Leopard's area cold enough in your park?"
