Beneath the sunlit waves of the ocean lies a realm of absolute darkness. At a depth of 3,000 feet, we enter the Bathypelagic Zone, commonly known as the Midnight Zone. Here, the water pressure is crushing, the temperature is just above freezing, and not a single ray of sunlight can penetrate.
To survive in this alien world, creatures have evolved extraordinary adaptations. The anglerfish, a famous resident of the deep, carries its own light source: a glowing rod called an esca that projects from its forehead. This light is produced by special glowing bacteria living inside the fish's skin, a phenomenon called bioluminescence. While most sea animals would perish in this harsh environment, these unique adaptations allow deep-sea dwellers to thrive.
