Rule 6 • Spills & Breaks
"Uh oh! Tell teacher fast! Freeze, do NOT touch glass."
"¡Avisa al maestro rápido! No toques el vidrio roto."
Gesture: Freeze hands in air, then raise one hand high and call out "Teacher!"
Rule 7 • Heat & Flames
"Hot! Never touch fire or hot glass with bare fingers."
"¡Caliente! No toques fuego ni vidrio caliente sin pinzas."
Gesture: Pull hands back as if feeling high heat, blow on fingers.
Rule 8 • Sharp Tools
"Sharp points down! Carry scissors safe like a pencil."
"¡Puntas hacia abajo! Corta siempre alejando de tu cuerpo."
Gesture: Hold index & middle finger pointed straight down toward the floor.
Rule 9 • Clean & Wash
"Clean your table. Soap and water on hands. All clean!"

Gesture: Rub hands together as if lathering soap vigorously.
Point to the 4 colored boxes on Page 2 of the student contract and explain using this consistent verbal framing:
GREEN (Safe): "You follow rules. You do fun science!" "Sigues las reglas y participas."
YELLOW (Pause): "Warning. You sit and watch for 5 minutes." "Aviso: descanso de 5 minutos."
ORANGE (Note): "Note home. You miss the next lab." "Nota a casa. Sin próximo lab."
RED (Meeting): "Family meeting with Principal." "Reunión con padres y director."
Verify comprehension without relying on English speech using this 1-minute visual confirmation routine:
Check 1: Find the Symbol Say: "Show me where the goggles are!" Student points to the glasses icon on their page.
Check 2: Thumbs Up / Thumbs Down Ask: "Can we run in the lab?" Student shows Thumbs Down ().
Supporting the Family & Signature Home Connection
• Student Signature: Allow the student to write their first name, trace their name, or place their unique scientist mark in the student signature box. Praise their commitment to safety.
• Spanish Family Message: Attach this short bilingual note when sending the contract home:
"Estimada familia: En la clase de ciencias estamos aprendiendo las reglas para mantenernos seguros en el laboratorio. Por favor revise los dibujos con su hijo(a), firme la segunda página y envíela a la escuela. ¡Gracias por apoyar la seguridad científica!"
