Local Nicknames: One bird might have 50 different names across one country!

The Solution: Carl Linnaeus
The "Father of Taxonomy"
In the 1700s, Swedish botanist Carl Linnaeus decided to fix the chaos.
"If you do not know the names of things, the knowledge of them is lost."
He created a hierarchical system to categorize every living thing based on shared traits.
What is Taxonomy?
Classification
Grouping objects based on similarities.
Nomenclature
A naming system (like 'Genus species').
Think of it like an address.
Country → State → City → Street → House Number
Biological classification works exactly the same way—getting more specific at every step.

What is a Species?
A species is the basic unit of classification. It consists of organisms that are capable of interbreeding and producing fertile offspring. In Binomial Nomenclature, the species name is always lowercase and written after the Genus.

A Dichotomous Key is a tool that allows scientists to identify organisms based on their traits.
"Dichotomous" means divided into two parts. At every step, you choose between two opposing traits until you reach the identity.

Rule #1: Observable Traits
