STATION 1
THE MAGNET MAZE
YOU NEED:
• Cardboard maze template
• Steel key ring or paperclip
• Wand magnet (under table)
TACTICAL MISSION:
Place your key ring at the **START** on top of the table.
Hold the magnet **underneath** the table right beneath the ring.
Slowly glide your hand to pull the ring through the maze lines!
BEHAVIOR RULE: Keep magnets away from computers or electronic screens at all times!
STATION 2
HAIR RAISER!
YOU NEED:
• Latex balloons (inflated)
• Fleece fabric square
• Tissue paper shapes (ghosts)
TACTICAL MISSION:
Rub the balloon **vigorously** on the fleece square for 10 seconds.
Slowly hold the balloon 1 inch above the tissue paper ghosts.
Watch the ghosts "wake up" and jump up to dance on the balloon!
BEHAVIOR RULE: Keep balloons to yourself. Do not rub them on other people's heads!
STATION 3
FORCE FIELD TEST
YOU NEED:
• Heavy-duty bar magnet
• Box of metal paperclips
• Cardboard squares (layers)
TACTICAL MISSION:
Hold 1 piece of cardboard. Put a magnet on top and paperclip on bottom.
Add cardboard pieces **one by one** to make the "force field" thicker.
Count how many pieces it takes before the paperclip falls off!
BEHAVIOR RULE: Keep paperclips in the box when not testing. No throwing materials!

PACING 45 Minutes Total
1. MATERIAL SETUP & PREPARATION
Station 1: Tape down the maze template sheets onto tables. Place 1 steel ring per student. Keep wand magnets hidden until direct instructions are finished to prevent early playing.
Station 2: Pre-inflate balloons (have backups ready!). Place tissue-paper ghosts in shallow plastic trays to prevent drafts from blowing them away.
Station 3: Provide stacks of pre-cut cardboard squares (4x4 inches) and a plastic cup of heavy-duty metal paperclips.
2. ANTICIPATED BEHAVIOR TRIGGERS
THE TRIGGER
Losing control of the ring in the maze (frustration).
Balloons popping (loud noise/fear trigger).
Grabbing magnets from other peers.
PROACTIVE REDIRECTION
Offer direct physical assistance immediately ("Let's guide it together!").
Maintain a 3-foot buffer between testing stations.
Keep visual "safety zones" marked on tables with tape.
3. PACING PART 1: INSTRUCTION (20 MIN)
WELCOME BRIEFING (5 Min)
Use Spark Slides Slide 1 . Establish the "Energy Badge" economy. Tell students: "Today we are exploring physical shockwaves. If we follow the golden rules, we earn 3 Energy Stars to exchange for our Shockwave Scientist badge."
DIRECT VISUAL LESSON (15 Min)
Project Slide 2 & 3 . Do not lecture for more than 5 minutes at a time. Play the linked YouTube video demos. Have a student volunteer demonstrate rubbing a balloon to lift tissue paper. Do a physical check-in: ask everyone to rub their hands together fast to feel the "heat friction" before introducing static.

Project Slide 4 . Walk through the 3 stations. Explicitly demonstrate correct behavior. For instance, show how to hold a magnet beneath the table rather than sliding it across the surface with noise.
TACTILE PRACTICE & ROTATIONS (12 Min)
Divide students into pairs. Set a timer for 4 minutes per station. Use a physical buzzer or bell for transitions. When the bell rings, teach the routine: hands in the air, drop tools immediately.

The Three States
CONCEPTS
1. SOLID
Stays in its own shape! Molecules are packed tight, holding hands, and won't let go.
2. LIQUID
Flows and takes the shape of its container! Molecules are sliding and rolling past each other.
3. GAS
Fills the whole room! Molecules are bouncing high-speed, flying off in all directions.

STATION 1
SLIME SHIFTER
YOU NEED:
• Pre-made starch & glue slime
• Plastic storage tray
• Popsicle stick scraper
TACTICAL MISSION:
Squeeze the slime **extremely hard** in your hand. How does it feel?
Let go of your fist. Watch it **flow and melt** between your fingers!
Roll it into a ball and tap it fast. Does it resist your touch?
BEHAVIOR RULE: Keep all slime completely inside the plastic tray. Never touch another student with sticky slime!
STATION 2
GAS BLAST!
YOU NEED:
• Funnel & measuring spoon
• 1 plastic bottle (with vinegar)
• Baking soda & balloons
TACTICAL MISSION:
Use the funnel to put **1 scoop** of baking soda inside your balloon.
Carefully stretch the balloon neck over the plastic bottle rim.
Lift the balloon **straight up** so the powder dumps inside. ZAP!
BEHAVIOR RULE: Do not shake or squeeze the bottle once the balloon expands! Keep it upright on the table.
STATION 3
LAVA BUBBLER
YOU NEED:
• Jar of water and vegetable oil
• Liquid food coloring bottle
• Effervescent tablets (fizzers)
TACTICAL MISSION:
Squeeze **3 drops** of color into your oil-water jar. Watch them sink.
Carefully drop **half a tablet** into the jar.
Watch the giant colored blobs bubble and flow like a volcano!
BEHAVIOR RULE: Keep your fingers out of the jar! Do not drink any liquids!

Lesson 2: Matter Morph

PACING 45 Minutes Total
1. SENSORY STATION PREPARATION
Station 1: Prepare the slime beforehand. Mix liquid starch and PVA Elmer's glue. Place each serving inside individual plastic shallow trays. Have hand wipes immediately on the table.
Station 2: Pre-fill small 8oz plastic water bottles with vinegar (approx. 2 inches deep). Place baking soda inside the balloons using funnels beforehand so students don't make powder messes.
Station 3: Fill heavy glass or plastic baby food jars with 75% vegetable oil and 25% colored water. Lay out effervescent tablets cut into halves.
2. ANTICIPATED SENSORY TRIGGERS
THE TRIGGER
Sticky texture of slime (sensory aversion/meltdown).
Strong smell of vinegar (tactile/olfactory shock).
Impulse to drink colored "lava lamp" liquids.
PROACTIVE REDIRECTION
Allow students to use popsicle sticks to touch slime if they hate sticky fingers.
Add 1-2 drops of lemon extract to vinegar to mask the smell.
Strictly use blue/green food dye and label jars "NOT DRINKABLE."
3. PACING PART 1: INSTRUCTION (15 MIN)
WELCOME BRIEFING (5 Min)
Use Morph Slides Slide 1 . Introduce the "Molecule Control Card." Set the safety limit: "We are entering the molecule lab. Sticky fingers stay on the tray. Spills are cleaned instantly with zero panic."
DIRECT VISUAL LESSON (10 Min)
Project Slide 2 & 3 . Do high-speed modeling. Demonstrate a solid (wooden block) and a liquid (pouring water). Ask everyone to act like molecules: 1) Stand tight and freeze (solid), 2) Hold hands and sway (liquid), 3) Hop and move away from each other (gas). This gets their energy out productively!

Project Slide 4 . Demonstrate how to tip the balloon upright in Station 2 without popping it off the bottle rim. Do this in front of everyone so they see the expanding gas.

Divide students into groups. Set 4.5 minutes per station. Use a distinct transition cue (bell). Prompt students to complete the during the transitions or active testing.
