Lesson Overview
In this lesson, students step into the role of paleontologists to distinguish between dinosaurs and pterosaurs. Using the Quetzalcoatlus as a case study, students will compare skeletal diagrams to find homologous structures and discuss how fossil evidence allows us to reconstruct the behavior of extinct giants.

Key Distinction:
Pterosaurs have an incredibly long fourth finger that supports the skin of the wing. Humans use all five fingers for grasping; pterosaurs used one for soaring!
