Students will understand the connection between the words "Moon" and "Month" and demonstrate the 8-phase cycle that takes approximately 30 days to complete.

Lesson Flow
05 Minutes
Warm-up: Calendar Count
Gather students around the classroom calendar. Count the days in the current month together. Teacher Prompt: "Notice how the calendar is organized. Does every month have the same number of days? Usually, it's about 30!"

Watch the video "Why Does the Moon Change?". Key Focus (2:47): Pause when Jessi explains that "month" comes from "moon."
Discussion Questions:
- How many weeks is 30 days? (About 4 weeks)
- Why do humans use months to track time?

Activity: Phase Sequencing
Distribute the Phase Flash Cards and Phase Tracker Worksheet. Students must cut out the cards and glue them in order on the circular track.
Note: Ensure they start with the New Moon at the 'start' indicator to reinforce the full cycle.

"If it's a Full Moon today, about how many weeks until the next Full Moon?"
Answer: 4 weeks (one month).
