1
Capture
Chlorophyll catches energy from sunlight like a solar panel.
2
Combine
The plant takes in Water from soil and Carbon Dioxide from air.
3
Convert
Chloroplasts turn the sun's energy and ingredients into Glucose (sugar).
4
Release
The plant keeps the food for energy and releases Oxygen to the air.
No photosynthesis = No oxygen for us!

Definition:
How plants use sunlight, water, and CO₂ to create food and oxygen.
Chloroplast
Definition:
The part of a plant cell where photosynthesis takes place. A tiny food factory!
Chlorophyll
Definition:
The green pigment that absorbs sunlight energy for the plant.
Glucose
Definition:
A type of sugar that plants create to use as energy and food.
Carbon Dioxide
Definition:
A gas that plants take in from the air to help them make food. (CO₂)
Oxygen
Definition:
A gas that plants release, which humans and animals need to breathe.

THE PROCESS OF PHOTOSYNTHESIS
The Ultimate Factory
While humans go to the store for food, plants make it themselves! This process is called photosynthesis . Every green plant is a high-tech solar factory that captures sunlight and turns it into energy.
Inside the Green Machine
This magic happens in leaves within structures called chloroplasts . Inside each chloroplast is a green pigment called chlorophyll . Its job is to "catch" the energy from sunlight.
The Recipe for Success
A plant needs sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide. The chloroplasts break these ingredients apart and rebuild them into glucose (sugar). As a bonus, the plant releases oxygen for us to breathe!
Word Power
"Photo" means light and "Synthesis" means putting together!

The Magic of Photosynthesis
Where does energy come from?
Humans get energy by eating food.
But plants don't eat... so how do they grow?
Photosynthesis
The process by which green plants use sunlight to make their own food from water and carbon dioxide.

Chloroplast
The Solar Kitchen
Plants have tiny organs called chloroplasts inside their leaf cells.
This is where the food-making factory lives!
Chlorophyll
Inside the chloroplast is a green pigment called CHLOROPHYLL.
