TACTICAL INSTRUCTIONS

Task A: Reflex & Reaction Test (Nervous System)
- Partner 1 holds the top (30cm mark) of the ruler, letting it hang vertically.
- Partner 2 positions their thumb and index finger at the 0cm mark, hovering but NOT touching.
- Without warning, Partner 1 drops the ruler. Partner 2 catches it as quickly as possible.
- Record the centimeter mark where the catch occurred on your Lab Tracker.
- Perform 3 trials, swap roles, and convert your centimeters into reaction time using the provided chart.

Task B: Chemical Messenger Match (Endocrine System)
- Examine the diagram below showing major endocrine glands.
- Match each Hormone Message Card to the gland that secretes it and the target effect.

Examine the structures that hold your body upright (skeletal skeleton) and power every stride, contraction, and heartbeat (muscular engine).

Task A: Antagonistic Muscle Pairs
- Place your left hand firmly on your right upper arm (bicep).
- Slowly bend your right arm upward at the elbow, keeping your bicep tensed. Feel the muscle.
- Now, push your hand downward and extend your arm completely straight. Feel the muscle on the back of your arm (tricep).
- Discuss with your partner why muscles can only pull, never push, and why they must work in pairs.
- Record which muscle contracts and which relaxes during flexion and extension on your Lab Tracker.

Task B: Joint Mechanics & Skeletal Roles
- Review the three joint types shown below.
- Perform each motion with your own body: neck rotation, elbow flexion, shoulder rotation.
- Match each movement to the correct joint class: Ball & Socket, Hinge, or Pivot.
- Identify the bone marrow function (producing blood cells) and skeleton's protective role for organs. Record on your tracker.

Task A: Pulse & Perfusion Challenge
- Find your pulse (carotid in neck or radial in wrist) using your index and middle fingers.
- Count your pulse beats for 15 seconds. Multiply by 4 to get your Resting Heart Rate (BPM).
- Perform 20 active jumping jacks or high knees immediately.
- Re-measure your pulse for 15 seconds. Multiply by 4 to get your Active Heart Rate (BPM).
- Record both numbers. Formulate a physiological explanation for the change on your tracker.

Task B: The Oxygen Delivery Pathway & Lymphatic Defense
- Look at the oxygen pathway schematic below. Trace how gas is exchanged in alveoli (Respiratory) and carried by red blood cells in capillaries (Circulatory) to power cellular respiration.
- Identify the role of the Lymphatic / Immune System: filtering pathogens out of interstitial fluid in the lymph nodes, and mobilizing white blood cells to destroy invaders.

Task A: Small Intestine Surface Area (Digestive)
- Compare two structures: A flat plastic strip vs. a heavily folded paper/sponge structure (representing the villi of the small intestine).
- Dip both in water. Measure which structure absorbs and retains more water (representing nutrient absorption).
- Observe how folds dramatically increase surface area for maximum extraction.
- Record your absorption findings on your Lab Tracker.

Task B: Kidney Filtration Model (Urinary)
- Assemble the funnel with the coffee filter over an empty beaker.
- Pour the muddy sand-water mixture (representing unfiltered blood) into the filter.
- Observe how the water passing through is clear (clean blood/urine precursor) while the larger solid sand particles stay trapped (filtered wastes).
- Trace the path: Kidneys filter → Ureters carry → Bladder stores → Urethra expels.

Task A: Two-Point Discrimination Shield Test
- Have Partner 1 close their eyes.
- Partner 2 gently touches Partner 1's **fingertip** with either ONE or TWO points of the paperclip. Partner 1 must say how many points they feel.
- Repeat this on Partner 1's **forearm** at the same spacing.
- Measure how narrow you can make the paperclip points on the fingertip while still feeling two distinct points vs the forearm.
- Discuss: Why are sensory receptors distributed differently in different areas of your protective armor? Record results.
B
Task B: Genetic Handover (Reproductive)
- Review how the reproductive system ensures species survival by producing specialized gametes (sperm and egg cells).
- Identify that each gamete contains exactly half (23 chromosomes) of the genetic blueprint needed to assemble a human body.
- Study the primary anatomical purposes: egg production/fetal incubation (female) and sperm production/delivery (male). Record the comparison.
