WATER DROPLET
wa • ter • drop • let (4 Claps!)
💧 1. Microscopic
Begins as tiny invisible water drops floating in air.
💧+💧 2. Grouping
Tiny droplets bump together to make bigger drops.
🌧️ 3. Heavy Fall
When drops get too heavy for clouds, they fall!
💡 Big Idea: Millions of tiny droplets make one single raindrop!

○ Day 3: Check
○ Day 4: Lab
Day 1 Word Flashback:
1. Precipitation is:
Water that falls from sky to ground.
2. Water Droplet is:
A tiny drop of liquid water.
The New Layer • Why Clouds Let Rain Fall:
1. Vapor Rises
☀️ ⬆️ Sun warms water; vapor floats up
Warm air rises
2. Chill & Bunch
❄️ ☁️ Cold sky cools drops into clouds
Drops gather
3. Too Heavy!
🌧️ ⬇️ Cloud gets full; drops fall down!
Precipitation!
Connecting Days 1 & 2:
When a cloud gathers too many water droplets, it becomes:
too heavy so the water falls as precipitation

👏 Awesome recall! Now let's add today's new layer of science thinking!
New Layer How Clouds Fill Up
The 3-Step Journey to Rain:
1 ☀️ ⬆️
Warm Vapor Rises
Sun warms puddles and oceans; warm water vapor floats high into sky.
2 ❄️ ☁️
Chills into Drops
Cold air high up chills vapor. Drops bunch together into fluffy clouds.
3 🌧️ ⬇️
Too Heavy to Float!
When the cloud gets overloaded, gravity pulls heavy drops down!
⚖️ Science Rule: When drops become heavier than the air underneath, they MUST fall!
Visual Analogy Think of a Sponge!
🧽
Dry / Light Sponge
Holds a few drops easily. Nothing drips out yet.
☁️ Like a light white cloud!
🧽💦
Soaked / Heavy Sponge
Full of water! It cannot hold any more drops.
🌧️ Like a dark, heavy rain cloud!
💡 Tomorrow in Lesson 4's lab, we will build our own cloud sponge model in a jar!

Freezing cold 32°F

SLEET

💡 Temperature Rule: Warm sky makes liquid rain. Cold freezing sky makes ice and snow!
Quick Sort Warm Weather vs. Freezing Weather
☀️ 🌡️
Warm Air (Above 32°F)
The water droplets stay liquid. What falls down?
🌧️ RAIN!
❄️ 🧤
Freezing Air (Below 32°F)
The water droplets freeze solid into ice. What falls down?
❄️ SNOW & SLEET!

Lab Gear Materials Checklist
🫙
Clear Jar
Filled 3/4 with tap water (stands for the open air!)
🧴
Shaving Foam
Fluffy white cloud layer squirted right on top.
💧
Blue Dye
Food coloring mixed with water to act like raindrops.
🧪
Dropper
Add one drop at a time onto our shaving cream cloud.
⚠️ Lab Safety: Shaving cream stays in the jar. Do not touch your eyes!
Protocol 4 Simple Steps
1
Fill the Jar
Pour water until your jar is 3/4 full. This is the atmosphere.
2
Spray the Cloud
Gently spray a 1-inch thick shaving cream cloud on top.
3
Count the Drops
Use your dropper to add blue food coloring drops on the foam.
4
Watch the Storm!
When the cloud gets overloaded, blue rain bursts through!
👀 Observe: How many drops did your cloud hold before it started raining?
Science Link Why Did It Rain?
🌧️ 🫙
Our Cloud Model Proved the Rule!
At first, the shaving cream cloud held the blue drops easily.
When we added MORE drops, the cloud became TOO HEAVY, and gravity pulled the blue precipitation down!
🏆 Exactly what happens in the real sky when rain falls!
