What Is a Veteran?
Read the story below to discover who our country's helpers are.
A veteran is a person who served in our country's military. They worked in the army, navy, air force, marines, coast guard, or space force. When people are in the military, they work together as a big team.
Veterans worked hard to protect our country and keep us safe. Some veterans flew planes high in the sky. Some sailed on giant ships across the ocean. Others helped fix machines, cared for hurt people, or brought food and water to families during big storms.
Veterans are very brave . They did important jobs, even when it was difficult or far from home. Today, many veterans are finished with their military service. They are now teachers, firefighters, mail carriers, nurses, or your friendly neighbors!
Every year on November 11th , we celebrate Veterans Day. It is a special holiday when we say "thank you" to honor these helpers for their courage and service.
