    Common Phonics Misconceptions & Fixes

Pronouncing Final E: Students vocalize "cape-uh". Guide them to cover the letter e with their finger after saying the vowel name.

Ignoring Context Clues: Students guess without reading the whole sentence. Guide them to read the complete thought aloud before selecting from the bank.

    Tiered Instructional Differentiation

    Tier 1: Support

Have students read through the word bank first, circling all words ending with silent 'e' in purple and underlining short vowel words in green.

    Tier 2: On Level

Have partners read sentences aloud to each other, listening for vowel clarity (short vs long).

    Tier 3: Extension

Ask students to write their own pair of sentences using a new pair like cut/cute or not/note.
