Story Passage: The Camp Crest Quest
Read carefully and watch for blend words!
Glen and Fran pulled tight the strap on each pack as they set out from Camp Crest. A cool spring breeze blew past the tall green grass. They began to stroll along a swift, clear stream. Suddenly, a little brown frog jumped off a flat rock with a quick splash!
Further down the winding trail, Glen stopped near a bent tree stump. "Look!" he called out. Half buried in the soft sand was a shiny brass trumpet! "A young camper must have left this behind," said Fran. "We must return it to the main tent before dusk falls and the cold mist rolls over the camp."
Fran quickly scrambled up the steep rocky slope to scout the path back. She saw gray smoke drift up from the cabin chimney. The two friends made a fast sprint down the hill. They were glad to hand the lost instrument to the scout leader just as the sky turned pink.
