Backyard Adventure
Story
Leo and his small dog, Barks, ran into the backyard on Saturday morning. The sun was shining brightly, but the green grass was still damp from an early morning rain.
Suddenly, Barks stopped near the giant oak tree and let out a quick, excited yip. Leo rushed over to see what his dog found. There in the soft brown mud were three strange footprints. They were tiny, spread wide, and shaped like little webbed hands!
"What kind of creature made those tracks?" Leo wondered out loud.
Just then, a sleek green frog hopped out from beneath a giant pumpkin leaf and landed with a gentle splash into the garden pond. Leo giggled and patted Barks on the head. Their backyard mystery was solved!

Story
Maya and her brother Liam were in the front yard raking crunchy orange and red leaves. The cool autumn wind made the branches sway gently above them.
As Maya scooped up a pile of leaves, she spotted something bright resting on top of a flat garden stone. It was a long, silky feather colored brilliant sky blue.
"Look up there!" Liam whispered, pointing into the tall maple tree. Perched high on a sturdy bough was a proud blue jay. In its beak was a small twig, which the bird carefully tucked into a round nest. The bird let out a cheerful chirp before flying toward the fence. Maya smiled and gently slipped the blue feather into her coat pocket to keep forever.
