Direct Modeling with Total Physical Response (TPR) (15 Mins)
1. Multimodal TPR Gestures (Crucial for WIDA Levels 1–2)
Teach whole-body gestures: Put hands on cheeks with a gasp: "Uh-oh! Problem!" (trouble / danger). Then throw both hands in the air with a smile: "Ta-da! Solution!" (the fix / safe!). Have all students repeat the words and gestures chorally 3 times.
2. Concrete Non-Example Connection with Realia
Hold up the wolf puppet and the basket with a pretend cookie:
"Boys and girls, if the Big Bad Wolf is growling and wants to eat Little Red, could Red say: 'Here is a cookie, go away'? Would that fix the problem? NO! Cookies don't stop a hungry wolf! The solution must really fix the trouble: Someone must stop the wolf and keep everyone safe!"
3. Anchor Chart Visual Walkthrough
Point to the pictures on the Fairytale Fixes Anchor Chart. Echo-read the visual labels: "Wolf = Problem!" (make gasp gesture) ➡️ "Woodcutter = Solution!" (make thumbs-up gesture).

Guided Practice, Application & Leveled Matrix
35 Mins Remaining
WIDA Multimodal Think Check
Teacher Check: "Show me with your hands: What does a Problem feel like? (Gasp/cheeks) What is the question we ask? (What went wrong?) What is a Solution? (Ta-da/thumbs up!)"
Turn-and-Talk Leveled Prompt:
WIDA Levels 1–2 (Entering/Emerging) Point to picture card or use gesture: "Uh-oh! Wolf!" ➡️ "Safe! Helper!"
WIDA Levels 3–4 (Developing/Expanding) Sentence frame: "The problem was the wolf. The solution was the woodcutter."
Guided Practice: Interactive Read-Aloud with Language Stops (15 Mins)
Stop 1 (Woods): Realia & Visual Preview
Display the red cape and basket. Red walks to Grandma's. Meet the Wolf. Have students mimic the wolf's sneaky walk.
Stop 2 (Grandma's Bed - The Climax): Problem Identification
Pause at: "What big teeth you have!" Prompt: "Everyone, show me your Problem sign! (Gasp!) Who is causing the trouble?" All students answer chorally: "The Wolf!"
Stop 3 (The Rescue): Solution Identification
The woodcutter rushes in! Prompt: "Show me your Solution sign! (Ta-da!) How did the woodcutter fix it?" Choral response: "He saved Red and Grandma!"
Multimodal Independent Practice (15 Mins)
Distribute the Wolf Troubles Practice Worksheet. Kindergarten students express understanding multimodally:
- Draw the Problem: Draw the sneaky wolf or Grandma in danger.
