Setup: The Token Vault
Phase 1
Each team starts with a cache of Colored Tokens.
At the END of the class, the vault opens. Every color holds a secret gene-value that determines your ultimate survival points.
Keep your values classified! No player knows which token holds the highest value until scoring begins. Treat every token as critical resource.

Bio-Capture Rules Next: How to earn steals
Step 1: Solo Intel (Crucial!)
No Work = No Steal
Every Scientist Must Act Alone First!
Before talking with your lab team, you must independently write down your answer and show concrete evidence.
Acceptable Scientific Evidence:
- Underline clues in the question prompt
- Eliminate choices with a clear biological reason
- Annotate diagrams or point out key structures
- Write out reasoning connecting to biological concepts
THE LAB INSPECTION
If even one member of your team has a blank sheet or no shown evidence, your team loses the ability to steal or protect for that round—even if your final answer is correct!
Keep your squad sharp. Check each other's sheets!

Step 2: Team Consensus & Capture
Strategic Choice
A
The Synthesis Debate
When the timer sounds, huddle with your group. Debate your answers, look at the evidence, and agree on a single team choice.
B
The Action Decision
If correct AND everyone has shown evidence, decide instantly:
PROTECT
Lock down 1 token from being stolen
STEAL
Take 1 token from another team's bin
Bio-Capture Rules Next: Round 1 Challenge
Battle Round 1: Cell Processes
Living Environment Regents
Which process is directly responsible for the movement of sodium ions across a cell membrane from an area of low concentration to an area of high concentration?
1 Active transport
2 Diffusion
3 Osmosis
4 Facilitated diffusion
Evidence Mission
On your workspace, you must complete the following to unlock your team's steal action:
- Highlight the phrase that indicates transport against the gradient.
- Explain why ATP energy is strictly required for this process.
Timer: 2:00 Minutes
Bio-Capture Review Show evidence to earn a protect/steal!
Battle Round 2: Genetics
Living Environment Regents
A segment of DNA has the sequence A-T-G-C-C-A. During replication, a mutation occurs, resulting in the sequence A-T-G-G-C-A. What is the most likely effect of this mutation?
1 The protein's amino acid sequence may change, potentially altering its shape and function.
2 The cell will immediately cease all protein synthesis and expire.
3 The protein will always fold perfectly and become immune to all other mutagens.
4 The mutation will convert the cell's entire active genome into a viral structure.
Evidence Mission
Must complete independently on your sheet:
- Circle/write down the exact nitrogenous base that underwent a mutation.
- Explain how the shape of a protein is directly linked to its function in a living cell.
Timer: 2:00 Minutes
Bio-Capture Review Write evidence. Team consensus follows!
Battle Round 3: Ecosystems
Living Environment Regents
In a typical ecological energy pyramid, the producers at the bottom level contain 10,000 kilocalories of energy. How much energy is typically available to the primary and secondary consumers?
Tertiary
Secondary
Primary
Producers [10,000 kcal]
1 10,000 kcal for all levels
2 1,000 kcal & 100 kcal
3 5,000 kcal & 2,500 kcal
4 0 kcal (energy does not transfer)
Evidence Mission
Show this work to claim your action:
- State the biological rule regarding energy transfer percentage between trophic levels.
- Explain where the rest of the energy is lost (e.g., cell respiration, heat).
Timer: 2:00 Minutes
Bio-Capture Review Prepare your evidence immediately!
Battle Round 4: Human Impact
Living Environment Regents
In an effort to control pests, a chemical pesticide was sprayed on crops over several years. Which statement describes a long-term negative consequence of this action on ecosystem biodiversity?
1 Pesticides degrade toxic waste and restore natural primary soil successions.
2 The chemical triggers instant global mutations in all ecosystem organisms.
3 Beneficial non-target insect species decrease, disrupting food webs and reducing stability.
4 Sprayed crops double their genetic biodiversity to survive the chemical agents.
Evidence Mission
Work independently on your paper:
- Define what biodiversity is and why it's critical to ecosystem stability.
- Explain how chemicals can bioaccumulate up a trophic food chain.
Timer: 2:00 Minutes
Bio-Capture Review Write evidence. Huddle is up next!
