The Great Leaf Rescue

Read the Story Setting: A crisp October afternoon
On a chilly October afternoon, Maya, Leo, and Caleb worked side by side beneath the towering backyard oaks. Using wooden rakes, they swept crunchy russet and golden leaves into a colossal mound they proudly named Mount Crisp. The air smelled of sweet pine and cool earth, and dry leaves swirled playfully around their boots.
"Ready for launch!" Leo shouted, racing forward and leaping straight into the center with an explosion of red and orange. But as he stood up dusting his jacket, his smile vanished. His grandfather's brass compass—a treasured gift he wore on a leather cord around his neck—was gone. With dusk approaching and brisk autumn winds threatening to blow Mount Crisp away, the treasure seemed hopelessly lost in thousands of leaves.
"Do not worry, we can solve this together," Maya said calmly. Caleb had a clever idea: "Let’s form a rescue line! We will comb through one section at a time so we do not crush it." Kneeling shoulder to shoulder, Maya and Caleb carefully lifted leaf layers while Leo checked the bare grass beneath. Within minutes, Caleb spotted a warm twinkle near the roots. "Found it!" he cheered, holding up the brass compass. Relieved and laughing, the three friends linked hands, counted to three, and took one giant, triumphant leap together into the mountain of leaves.
