The bright sunshine lit up Camp Pine. Blake and Drake were fast friends who liked to explore the wild landscape. Blake was a skilled athlete who could sprint past the tall flagpole. Drake liked to pack a lunchbox with a hot pancake and a sweet cupcake. At dusk, the camp counselors lit a warm campfire on a wide slab of slate.
While resting by the campfire, Drake gasped. "Look inside that crack in the stone!" he whispered. Creeping out was a rare reptile! The reptile had shiny scales and legs that jumped like a giant tadpole. Drake made a quick mistake. He jumped up fast to admire the creature, but his sudden stomp made the reptile freeze and try to escape.
Blake said, "Do not confuse the poor reptile! Step back so it will not panic." They decided to invite their camp leader, Miss Vance, to inspect the reptile safely. They sat still until the creature felt safe and crept back into its damp den. Just before bedtime, Blake and Drake smiled. Their campfire quest had been a grand success!
