The Secret of the Letter S!
Subjects and verbs must match! Find their perfect partnership.
⚖️ The Golden Matchmaker Rule: Only ONE partner gets the "S"! If the subject does NOT have an "S" at the end, the action verb MUST have one!
👤 Singular Subject (1)
ONE Person, Place, or Thing
He She It The Cat
Action Verb + -s / -es
✨ When do we add -es?
If the verb ends in: ch, sh, x, s
• watch ➔ watches
• brush ➔ brushes
• fix ➔ fixes
• pass ➔ passes
Examples:
🐱
The cat sleeps inside.
🏃♂️
He runs fast.
🎨
She paints art.
👥 Plural Subject (Many)
TWO or More (A Crowd!)
We They The Cats
Action Verb + No "s"!
✨ Keep Verbs Simple!
Since the subject already represents a crowd, the verb doesn't need to do any heavy lifting:
• watch ➔ watch
• brush ➔ brush
• fix ➔ fix
• pass ➔ pass
Examples:
🐱🐱
The cats sleep inside.
🏃♂️🏃♂️
They run fast.
🎨🎨
We paint art.
