Zeus and His Mighty Sky

Long ago, people in Greece told stories about mighty gods. The king of all the gods was named Zeus . Zeus lived high up on a tall mountain called Mount Olympus . He had a golden palace above the white clouds.

Zeus ruled the weather and the sky. When storms rolled in, Zeus held bright lightning bolts in his hands. He could throw them down from the sky with a loud BOOM! A giant golden eagle was his special pet and helper.

The people respected Zeus. They believed he brought rain to help their food grow. People built large stone temples to thank him. They even held big sports games to celebrate their mighty king!

Poseidon: Ruler of the Seas

Long ago, the ancient Greeks believed in a mighty god named Poseidon . Poseidon was the brother of Zeus. While Zeus ruled the sky, Poseidon was the king of the vast oceans. He lived deep under the blue waves in a grand palace built from gold and shiny seashells.

Poseidon carried a three-pointed spear called a trident . When he struck the water with his trident, big ocean waves rolled across the sea. He could also make the water calm and still so dolphins and sea turtles could swim peacefully beside his chariot.

Greek sailors respected Poseidon very much. Before sailing across the sea on wooden boats, sailors prayed to Poseidon for safe travels. People built temples on cliffs near the water to honor the mighty ocean king!

Long ago, the ancient Greeks told stories about a quiet god named Hades . Hades was the brother of Zeus and Poseidon. Zeus ruled the sky and Poseidon ruled the ocean. Hades was given the mysterious underworld deep beneath the ground, where he lived in a palace made of dark stone and gold.

Hades had a magical helmet that could make him completely invisible . He also had a loyal pet dog named Cerberus who had three heads! Cerberus watched the gates of the underworld so everyone remained safe and peaceful inside.

The Greeks called Hades "the rich one." This was because all the shiny gold, silver, and sparkling gems in the earth belonged to his kingdom. People respected Hades for keeping order deep under the earth!
