Part 4: Oral Retelling Rubric
Read the expanded passage on Student Page 4 to the student. Then, read the standardized oral prompt: "Tell me what happened in this story in your own words. What happened first, next, and last?" Score their verbal retelling using the rubric below.
Scoring Rubric
Score 3: Proficient 3 Points
The student retells the expanded key sequence events (Beginning: sled on hill, Middle: slides down / bumps a rock, End: lands in snow happily) in logical order without prompting.
Score 2: Developing 2 Points
The student retells at least three key milestones in order, or requires minor guiding prompts (e.g., "What happened after the sled hit the rock?") to complete the sequence.
Score 1: Emerging 1 Point
The student retells only one or two disconnected events (e.g., "sled" or "fell"), or provides a highly scrambled sequence even after heavy prompting.
Score 0: Non-responsive / Incorrect 0 Points
No response, or response is completely unrelated to the story.
