What is Dystopia?
An imagined state or society in which there is great suffering or injustice. Often characterized by oppressive control and the illusion of perfection.

What might that society look like? What rules might be in place to enforce this sameness? And how would it feel to live in such a world?"
"Take about 3-5 minutes to jot down your initial thoughts in your notebooks or on a piece of paper. Don't overthink it, just let your imagination run wild with the possibilities of extreme sameness."

The Challenge: A Moment of Truth
Imagine a dystopian world you create. In this world, conformity is enforced – perhaps through strict rules, constant surveillance, mind-numbing routines, or suppression of individual expression. Your task is to write a short narrative scene focusing on a single moment or brief interaction where one of your characters chooses to resist this conformity.
1. Setting the Scene
Clearly establish your dystopian environment. How does the setting itself reflect the enforced conformity of the society?
2. Character Introduction
Introduce a character who is subject to the society's demands. Show us their internal state before the resistance occurs.
3. Act of Resistance
Depict a clear act of defiance. This can be subtle (a hidden object) or overt (a public challenge). It must be meaningful.
4. Internal/External Conflict
Explore the struggle with the decision or the immediate reaction caused by the defiance. What are the stakes?
5. Narrative Elements
Use strong descriptive language, sensory details, and appropriate dialogue to bring the tension of the scene to life.
