The Shocking Secret of the Electric Eel
Score: 4 / 4 Exemplar
Deep inside the muddy rivers of the Amazon rainforest lives one of the most astonishing predators on Earth: the electric eel. Although it looks like a slippery fish, this creature possesses a real-world electrical superpower. Inside its long body, thousands of special cells work together like stacked batteries to produce a jolt of up to 600 volts of electricity. For example, this shock is five times stronger than a standard household wall outlet! Because murky river water is difficult to see through, the eel uses weak pulses like radar to locate food, then delivers a massive stun blast to capture fast-moving prey. In addition, this electrifying burst keeps dangerous predators like hungry caimans from attacking it. With its unstoppable built-in taser, the electric eel proves that nature's superpowers are even more amazing than comic book fiction!
