1. The Beginning (The Curse)
After a long-awaited birth, a King and Queen throw a great feast. They invite twelve wise women to bestow gifts upon the princess. However, they had only twelve gold plates, so the 13th wise woman was excluded. Enraged by this slight, she crashes the party and curses the princess to die by a spindle-prick on her 15th birthday.
2. The Rising Action (The Stall)
The 12th wise woman softens the curse: the princess will not die, but sleep for 100 years. The King issues a decree to burn every spindle in the land. Despite this, on her 15th birthday, while exploring a hidden tower, Briar Rose finds an old woman spinning. She pricks her finger and the prophecy is fulfilled.
3. The Slumber & Thorns
A deep sleep falls over the entire castle—the King, Queen, horses, and even the fire in the kitchen. A thick hedge of thorns grows around the castle, becoming so tall it hides the building. Many princes try to break through but are trapped and die in the briers.
4. The Resolution
Exactly 100 years later, a young prince hears the story and approaches. The thorns have turned to large, beautiful flowers that part for him. He finds the princess and wakes her with a kiss. The rest of the kingdom wakes instantly, and they live happily ever after.
Narrative Insight
