Mode B: Fluency Sprint Facilitation Norms

Visual Tap Cue

Tap desk or point to word center. Students hold speech until the tap, ensuring synchronized choral reading.

Pacing Target

Maintain 1.0 to 1.5 seconds per word. Keep energy crisp; do not let students drawl or over-elongate vowels.

Whisper Scaffolding

If any hesitation occurs, immediately whisper the rime coda (e.g., "at") rather than re-sounding each letter.

Quick Observational Diagnostic Rubric

Level 1: Fragmented

Struggles to hold vowel in memory; inserts schwa onto stops (e.g., "puh-in"). Needs daily Tier 2 sound-drill cards.

Level 2: Rime-Supported

Accurately blends rime units in Mode A but hesitates 2+ seconds on whole words during Mode B Sprint.

Level 3: Automatic

Reads whole words instantaneously (<1.0s) during sprint with zero phonemic distortion. Ready for multisyllabic decoding.
